CANDIDATE GUIDELINES, EXPECTATIONS & PROCEDURES

Candidate training procedures are in accordance with the National Ski Patrol standards and are approved by area anagement and the patrol director. Candidates are under the supervision of Bogus Basin Ski Patrol's elected board and board appointed trainers. Their training is designed to prepare them to assume the responsibilities of patrolling and National Ski Patrol (NSP) membership. For this reason, they must be clearly informed of what will be expected of them as candidates, and eventually as patrollers.

Bogus Basin Ski Patrol Candidates will:

* 1. Accept the responsibility of providing competent emergency care and transportation to an injured person.

* 2. Demonstrate a positive, mature attitude toward the national and local patrol, the candidate training program, area management, ski patrol relations, and ski safety issues.

* 3. Demonstrate skiing ability essential to stable, controlled toboggan operation during try outs, and be able to proficiently ski all terrain under all snow and weather conditions at Bogus Basin.

* 4. Pass the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), CPR certification, AED courses.

* 5. Meet requirements of the Annual Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), CPR, AED and on-the-hill refreshers.

6. Successfully complete mandatory urinalysis testing.

* 7. Pay all National Ski Patrol (NSP) registration fees.

* 8. Become familiar with all types of toboggans used at Bogus Basin.

* 9. Develop strong abilities in all toboggan handling techniques under all types of terrain and weather conditions.

* 10. Be under direct supervision of a board appointed trainer during training until successfully completing the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) and Toboggan tests.

* 11. Fulfill National Ski Patrol (NSP) and area training requirements.

* 12. Satisfactorily demonstrate performance objectives for Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) scenarios and toboggan handling.

* 13. Learn Bogus Basin's specific procedures, rules, and regulations as outlined, but not limited to, the "On The Hill Procedures for Candidate Training".

* 14. Wear candidate uniform, at all times on the hill during training until voted into membership.

   15. Schedule the remainder of the season after passing the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC)/toboggan test for a minimum of 18 days total for the year.

   16. After passing the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) and toboggan test, be assigned by the hill captain to patrol with an adult patroller at all times.

Auxiliary candidates must meet all of the above requirements except toboggan and skiing proficiency.
