Join the Patrol

When it comes to being a ski patroller, there is no mold. However, there are some common traits that most patrollers share. National Ski Patrol members have a strong desire to help others, learn emergency care techniques, improve their skiing and snowboarding skills, and enhance the safety and enjoyment of snow sports for all.

A Full Day of Fun

Bogus Basin Ski Patrol members support their area management in preparing the mountain in the morning, rescuing and caring for injured guests throughout the day and making sure everyone gets down safely when the mountain closes. Sure it’s a full, action-packed day, but there’s nothing more rewarding than putting in a hard day’s work while having a good time and making lifelong friends in the process.

Learn new skills

National Ski Patrol education programs offer you the chance to obtain world-class training. Learn about emergency care practices, search and rescue techniques, avalanche control, mountaineering, toboggan handling and many other interesting and essential skills. The most rewarding part is taking what you learn and putting it to the test on the mountain.

come Hang Out with us

Take your passion for snow sports to the next level by attending an applicant interest day (Ski With A Patroller, or S.W.A.P.) where you are invited to shadow your local patrol. This is your opportunity to learn more about how the patrol operates and what is expected of its members, as well as a chance for the patrol to evaluate your individual talents and abilities. Simply fill out our sign up form and someone from the patrol will contact you.

 Join the Patrol

We are always accepting applications for the upcoming patrol year. Fill out our sign up form so that we can ski with you this winter to start the candidate process. A candidate will invest a full year in training and will need to successfully pass all of the training disciplines before being voted a member of the Bogus Basin Ski Patrol.

A typical candidate year looks like this:

  • S.W.A.P. (Ski With A Patroller) which spans between Mountain Opening and March/April.

  • Summer/Fall Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) which typically runs from July-October (NSP # required to participate).

  • On The Hill OEC Certifications (Dec - Jan)

  • Toboggan Training / Certification (Late Jan - Early March)

To become a Basic Patroller, only the OEC is required.  To become an Alpine Patroller you must complete the toboggan training.   It is required to start with S.W.A.P.   You cannot enter directly into Winter Toboggan Training without either passing the S.W.A.P program or obtaining the recommendation of the Patrol Director or their designate, and you must obtain your NSP membership prior to Toboggan and OEC Training.

The Patrol General Membership votes on candidates who have completed either the OEC portions or all portions as needed.

ENJOY the Benefits

Beyond the friendship and camaraderie of the patrol team, Bogus Basin Ski Patrol members are eligible for a volunteer season ski pass. Eligible patrollers can also earn a season ski pass for a guest, or season family pass. Additional benefits include on-the-mountain food discounts, retail discounts, rental discounts, as well as ski school lessons.
